There are a number of ways that our PS 58 families stay up to date on the goings on at our busy school.
E-blasts from Parent Coordinator
Joan’s e-blasts are sent to all parents and guardians weekly via Konstella during the school year.
Konstella is a communications platform hosted by the PTA that connects parents to teachers, to each other, and to the many communities within our school. You can use Konstella on a computer, tablet or phone. You’ll find events, sign ups, announcements and more. To join, go to Konstella.com and “Find Your School” by filling out a simple form located in the top right-hand corner. Once approved as a member, join your child’s classroom to connect with the teacher and other parents. To join a classroom:
On a mobile phone:
- Open Messages.
- Open Join Classrooms.
- Select your child’s name.
- Open the menu to select a classroom. Scroll down to find the new class.
On a laptop or PC:
- Click the arrow next to your name in the black sidebar.
- Open Your Children.
- Click on Join Classroom to see the menu of classes and select the new classroom.
Contact your Class Parent after school begins, or email PTA Communications, email@example.com, or Parent Coordinator Joan Bredthauer for assistance.
Parent Teacher Association monthly meetings
As a parent or guardian of a child at PS 58, you are automatically a member of our PTA. Attend virtual monthly meetings to stay informed about school news. The Principal, Assistant Principal, and the PTA Officers and Chairs give updates. Check the web calendar for details.
Web Calendar, Konstella Calendar
Visit the Google Web Calendar or Konstella for up-to-date information about events and programs. You can search through the months for future events and you can download information to your phone.
Class parents work closely with their child’s classroom teacher to help coordinate volunteers and refreshment sign-ups for class and school events. They use Konstella to create a classroom directory, and send timely messages to parents. The PTA calls for volunteers to be class parents in the fall of each school year.
NYC Schools Account (NYCSA)
You can receive updates directly from the Department of Education by creating a NYCSA. Once you have the basic version, you can upgrade and link your children to your account to check grades, attendance and more. Please visit the NYCSA Account Set Up Guide for Parents.
If you are new to NYCSA, you will receive an Authorization letter with a creation code the first week of school via backpack mail with instructions and a code to create your account and link your children to it. You will also need your child’s student ID to link your account to your child. Find the student ID on a past report card, or in your Operoo account. The ID is a 9-digit number beginning with a “2” or a “1”. If you see an “8”, that’s just a pre-registration placeholder, and you’ll need to contact the school for the ID number. Families in grades 1-5 should use NYCSA to provide consent for COVID testing at school. You can give consent even if you only have a basic account! Please read the instructions at the NYCSA Account Set Up Guide for Parents, see link above.
You can update your email address at your account to make sure you receive important notices from the DOE. You can also sign up for DOE updates on topics of interest to you, such as middle school admissions.
Operoo (formerly CareMonkey) automates important school forms. Parents receive an invitation to Operoo when they enroll their child at PS 58. If you have not received an invitation for an Operoo account, please contact Parent Coordinator Joan Bredthauer at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please make sure that you have completed the NYC DOE Blue Emergency Contact Card on Operoo.
PS 58 Google Group
This e-group is moderated by parents and is open to every school community member, past or present. Subscribe to receive a daily digest or email messages from other group members. You may post and receive information about neighborhood events, baby sitters, government and Community Based Organization resources, camps, lost pets, and even some grass-roots organizing to benefit the school or neighborhood. No junk mail, chain letters, gossip or complaints, please, and please be sensitive to all members of the group.
To subscribe, send an email to Carroll-School-Mail-Listemail@example.com and INCLUDE YOUR NAME, CHILD’S NAME AND CLASS, so that the manager will know who you are. Sign each new post with the same.

School Messenger Emergency Alert System
In the case of an emergency, PS 58 will use a “robo-call” system to reach families quickly. The system is programmed to call the telephone number you listed as primary on your child’s blue emergency contact card. If you would like to add additional numbers or receive a text message in addition to a call, please contact Parent Coordinator Joan Bredthauer by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
