Meals

Free grab & go meals for all New Yorkers at 400+ sites citywide.

New Yorkers can take 3 free meals to go at sites throughout NYC.  Student and family hours are 7:30am to 11:30am, everyone is welcome from 11:30am to 1:30pm.

Here is a list of grab & go meal sites in our district.

(NYC schools are closed at this time, except for those offering free meals to New Yorkers, or hosting Regional Enrichment Centers for children of Essential Workers)

School Lunch

Students may select lunch from the cafeteria, or bring lunch from home.

This year, all school meals are free!  However, we still need all families to fill out a School Meals Applicationeven if your child will always bring lunch from home. Also known as the Family Income Inquiry Form, this helps us keep track of data on meals participation at PS 58 and helps NYC get Federal funding for free meals.  You can fill out the paper form you received in backpack mail, or you can complete your form online at the SchoolFood website.

At the School Meals page on the Department of Education website, you can find the monthly lunch and breakfast menus. PS 58 serves the Pre-K-8 lunch menu. You can also sign up for the SchoolFood app, read the Food Allergy Policy, and find the nutritional value of each meal item, including calorie count.

Each month, the school lunch menu is also printed on the reverse of your paper backpack calendar.

Assorted milk choices are included with school lunch, including low-fat and low-fat chocolate.  Students bringing lunch from home who wish to take milk from the refrigerator just need to speak to the school aides on duty.

Non-meat entree options are available daily and include peanut butter & jelly and cheese sandwiches.

Breakfast Program

We offer breakfast free of charge to students daily in our cafeteria beginning at 8:00 AM.  There is no need to sign up.  Students who need to arrive early to school, but do not wish to eat breakfast, may also come to the cafeteria at 8:00 AM.  Use the main entrance on Carroll Street.

Volunteering at Lunch and Recess

Training is offered in the fall for parents and guardians who wish to help students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade during lunch and recess.  Please contact Parent Coordinator Joan Bredthauer for training. Students have recess before or after lunch.
