FUNDRAISING

WHAT WE FUND

STEM Enrichment

Applying math and science to hands-on, fun activities.

Dance and Movement

Kids need to move and express themselves physically.  We bring in top-notch collaborators to teach the fun and  art of movement!

Arts, Music, and Theater Enrichment

Ballroom Dance

One of our most beloved programs is the Ballroom Dance unit in 4th and 5th Grades through Dancing Classrooms.   You’ll get to see your child perform the Fox Trot, Swing, Merengue, and more.

Ballet Tales

A highlight of 2nd Grade is the New York City Ballet’s 8-week residency.  Children transform their written words into movement for an unforgettable performance. Students attend a performance of the Nutcracker.

Brooklyn Ballet and Dance Literacy

Our PK, K, and 1st graders get some extra time to move and an introduction to dance.

Trout Program, Outragehiss Pets, Talons

3rd Grade scientists follow the life cycle from trout egg in the classroom to releasing them into the wild upstate. PK, K, and 1st graders classrooms get some interesting visitors!

Chess in the Schools

Can your child beat you at chess?  That's due to weekly in-class instruction for all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders.

Construction Kids

Social Studies units are supplemented with a Brookyln Bridge building project in 2nd grade, and a Lenape Wigwam in 4th.

Met Opera

A very special part of 3rd grade is the Met Opera residency.  Students compose, create, and perform their own Opera, and get to attend a live performance at The Met.

Fairway Community

Did you know that if you shop at Fairway you can have your  purchases help PS58?

Fairway will donate 3% of whatever you buy to the PS58 PTA.

To make the donation happen you need to shop with one of PS58’s Fairy Community Partner Cards. It’s a plastic card, about the size of a credit card, that they’ll scan when you shop.

Pick one up at the front office where they are stacked on the welcome desk. The card does not give Fairway any information about you, it just links what you spent to the PTA for the donation.

Come together for our city, for our teachers, for our school and for our kids.

This year, so much has changed, but our commitment to providing an outstanding  education for ALL of our children has not.  PS 58 embodies this collaboration every day when people across our community come together to create a meaningful  educational environment for our children – enriching the curriculum through creative  programs, offering resources essential for learning, and building school spirit. Small actions, done collectively, benefit us all.

Whether your student will be learning on a remote or hybrid schedule, let’s come together to support one another and give our school the resources we need. Together, we can achieve the best possible learning experience in these extraordinary times.

How Much Are We Raising?

Our goal for the PS 58 Come Together direct-appeal campaign is $200,000.

We are hopeful that we will still be able to  have our auction and Read-A-Thon in the spring, plus smaller events throughout the year, to help us raise the additional funds for our 2020-2021 budget.

Where Does the Money Go?

Our PTA will spend approximately $393,500, or $430 per student this year.

What are we spending money on?

  • 55% goes to providing vital resources, including upgrading our computer inventory, providing document cameras and electronic smart boards for remote learning, and providing basic supplies for classrooms;
  • 22% goes to enriching curriculum, including opportunities for re-imagined in-class programming and additional funding for class subscriptions;
  • 18% goes to empowering teachers, through increased funding for professional development and teacher grants for classroom-specific curricular supplements ;
  • 10% goes to our community, including food and basic supplies to children who need them both within our school and in surrounding neighborhoods.

 How much should I give?

 Our PTA is spending $430 per student this year. We are asking each family who participates  to provide that amount per student now, or $50 a month for the rest of the school year.

We appreciate all contributions, whether they are above or below our suggested donation. Regardless of how much you can give , our goal is to have 100% participation. We are  always grateful for families who choose to give their time to volunteer. We know families have different abilities to give at different times. Give what you can, how you can.
