The 11th annual PS 58 READ-A-THON ends MONDAY, APRIL 5. Over the past few years our community has averaged over 350,000 minutes and FUNdraised! The kids get so excited about this event! Each student reads their hearts out while working together as a class and raising money for our school.
How does the READ-A-THON Work? It’s as Easy as 1-2-3!
Your kids find sponsors using this Pledge Sheet. (You’ll need to make your own copy of the file or print it out. It’s also attached here.) Think grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, neighbors. Anyone who is excited about your child reading and making a difference in their community. Get the kids involved in the process. Use this as an opportunity for them to call, zoom, email and write. Send thank-you notes at the end. But you don’t need sponsors to participate. We want 100% of students to participate regardless of sponsorship. We hope every student at PS58 does a lot of reading and keeps track of it!
March 22- April 5. Read-a-thon week. Log reading minutes daily using thisReading Log. (You’ll need to make your own copy of the file or print it out. It’s also attached here.) ALL reading counts: books, letters, comics recipes, even Google Classroom slides. If you read to your kids that counts too. Looking for something to read? While some public libraries may be closed, you can always find books online through your class’s Raz Kids or Epic pages.
April 6-April 12. Tally and report. Once you’ve tallied your total minutes read, submit them electronically through this Google Form (preferred method) OR by scanning your reading log and emailing it to email@example.com. This year, we will collect money electronically through our Konstella Donation Page (Click on the DONATE button) or through Venmo @ps58PTA. You can also mail a check to the school at 330 Smith Street (make it out to PS58 PTA and write “Read-a-Thon” in the memo). We can’t accept cash. Please submit your log and your sponsorship funds by Monday April 12th.
And the winner is…
The class with the highest participation from each grade will receive a certificate of excellence and a gift card to build their in-class library. The class that reads the most minutes school-wide will also receive a special virtual read-aloud party from one of our principals!
Where does the money go?
The money raised supports valuable PTA-funded projects such as classroom books, supplies, teacher professional development, computers, electronic subscriptions and valuable in-class enrichment programs. We hope to have 100% participation. Students can participate without sponsors. We need your support to make the 11th annual READ-A-THON a success. Thank you!
