The testing team will visit our school each week.  Students in grades 1 to 5, and staff, will be selected randomly for COVID testing. Make sure you have given permission for your child to be tested through your NYCSA at www.mystudent.nyc.

Parents of students who were tested will bring home a letter explaining how to obtain test results.  If a student tests positive, their parent will be notified directly and quarantine instructions will be communicated.  If any of a student’s close school contacts test positive, parents will be notified and will receive instructions for quarantine.

Families can visit the COVID-19 testing page at the DOE website for answers to many questions about testing at school.

A student who is reluctant to be tested will not be forced to be tested.  We recommend that families review the video of the testing process at the DOE website, which demonstrates how easy and non-invasive the test actually is.

Students who are tested will bring home a letter with instructions on how to obtain their results.  If you have provided the DOE with an email address, you will usually be notified by email.  If your child needs to quarantine, you will receive a call.

48-72 hours have passed since my test. How will I learn my test result?

If you haven’t heard anything after 48 to 72 hours, you can contact the NYC Public School COVID-19 Testing Result Hotline at 646-614-3028. When you call, please have the following information available:

  • Your student’s name and date of birth
  • The date and school where the testing occurred
  • The name of the lab that performed the test (check the flier your child was sent home with, ask your school, or check the spreadsheet above)

In addition, you can contact the lab directly. If you were tested by:

BioReference Laboratories

  • All patients that provided contact info to the school to share with the testing lab will receive an email with their result information
  • Staff ONLY can also access their result, when it becomes available, through the BioReference portal after the staff member creates a confidential personal profile accessible here: bioreference.com/patient-portal (Open external link)
  • If a patient does not receive results notification within 72 hours, please email patientportal@bioreference.com (Open external link)
  • Parents or guardians of students tested can contact BioReference directly at 1-888-279-0967, and should mention they are calling in reference to NYC schools testing program
    • When contacting the lab, please have the following information available:
      • Patient Name, Patient Date of Birth, Date testing occurred
