Rezoning Update & Call for Public Input on Two Proposals

Public comment is sought (particularly from families with children born in 2015 or later) to develop a rezoning or admissions-choice plan for elementary schools in our area, including PS 58. This plan would affect children entering Kindergarten or Pre-K in 2020.

Our District 15 CEC sent the following message to families on June 28th:

Dear D15 Friends and Families,
Many of you have heard about the elementary school rezoning that is happening in the Northern part of District 15, in SubDistrict 3, that involves the following seven schools: PS 15, PS 29, PS 32, PS 38, PS 58, PS 261 and PS 676.
Superintendent Skop and the Office of District Planning have been working with CEC15 and the school community members to solicit feedback on new ways to achieve Equity and Excellence through this rezoning. At the moment, there is no formal plan on the table but they are exploring two viable options, and we would like your feedback.
All of the paperwork can be found on the DOE website, About Us, District Planning. The most recent District 15 Presentation of 6.20.19. is here for your review. In this document you will see two different approaches to rezoning that the DOE is proposing.
One proposed approach redesigns geographic zone lines and the other proposed approach creates a single zone encompassing the entire seven school SubDistrict. In both of these scenarios there would be seats prioritized for students who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch, are English Language Learners or are Students in Temporary Housing.
The CEC 15 term is coming to an end on June 30. On July 1 we will have a new team of Community Education Council Members. Some of our members have been re-elected and some are new to CEC 15. Our new team wants to meet you!
Join us on Tues, July 16 or Mon, Aug 8, at 131 Livingston Street at 6:30, when the Office of District Planning will do a quick overview of the zoning information provided to date. The Office of District Planning will also take comments from the floor at the end of the meeting.
Please tell your friends and neighbors and anyone you know with young children. We want ALL voices from ALL of our communities in the room.
Hope to see you there!
